Industrial Builders for US Projects

Colony Construction builds mission-critical steel and concrete infrastructure across the United States - from data centers and manufacturing plants to Mountain West energy projects and Alaskan remote mining. 40+ years of execution, 700+ completed projects, one cross-border team for US industrial owners.

Who We Are

For US industrial owners, Colony offers a single accountable partner for design-build steel and concrete work. We handle IBC seismic zones, AISC / AWS steel standards, state-by-state permitting, and cold-climate CVN testing when your project calls for it - in-house, no subcontracted capability, no finger-pointing.

Our promise is “tenacious creativity”. With our team of outside-the-box thinkers, we push boundaries to deliver high-value solutions with integrity and precision… no matter the challenge.

Our Core Values

Neon 1.webp

Do what you say you're going to do

Talk is cheap; follow-through takes effort. Commit to a plan, execute, and own the results.
Neon 2

Learn Today, Succeed Tomorrow

Mistakes are great!…as long as you learn from them and share the experience with others so everyone can improve.
Neon 3

Success is in the Details

Assuming that everything will work itself out is an invitation for failure. Be proactive and get into the details.
Neon 4

Do the Right Thing

Every company SAYS they’re ethical when nothing’s on the line, but Colony DOES the right thing no matter what it costs us.
Neon 5

Go Home Healthy

No matter what the cost, everyone we work with will go home healthy to their families every day.
Neon 6

Happy to Help

Regardless of how busy you are, don’t wait to be asked to lend a helping hand. “It’s not my job” isn’t in our language.

Our Story

80's

80s

Colony was founded in 1985 by David Thompson and has served US industrial owners since the company opened its international division. Thompson started Colony on pre-engineered steel buildings but built the company around an international delivery model that has since served US mining, energy, and heavy-industrial clients...

90's

90s.webp

By the early 1990s Colony's international division was actively delivering US and cross-border industrial projects, establishing the cold-climate and remote-site capability US operators rely on today. It remains one of the largest preojects around the globe.

00's

00s.webp

In the early 2000s, Jesse Atkinson joined Colony and expanded its service catalog to cover the US industrial segments Colony serves today - data centers, mining infrastructure, energy facilities, and controlled-environment agriculture. Under Atkinson, Colony's footprint across US service offerings.

10's

10s.webp

Atkinson acquired Colony from Thompson and expanded the firm into full design-build general contracting - the single-accountable-partner model US industrial owners rely on to control execution risk.

20's

20s.webp

Colony formalized a US-market strategic plan centered on client-outcome guarantees and retained-delivery-team continuity - a commitment US industrial owners increasingly demand on multi-year heavy-industrial engagements. This approach remains unusual in the construction industry.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Colony Construction work on US projects?

Yes. Colony has an active US practice covering California, Texas, Arizona, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Alaska, and the Mountain West region. US projects span data centers, manufacturing plants, mining infrastructure, energy facilities, and controlled-environment agriculture.

How does Colony handle US-specific building codes and standards?

Colony's in-house engineering team works to AISC structural-steel standards, AWS D1.1 welding, and the International Building Code (IBC) including its seismic-zone requirements. State-by-state permitting and local AHJ review is managed by our project-management team as part of the standard design-build package.

What advantage does a Canadian-headquartered builder bring to US owners?

Cold-climate capability, remote-site logistics, and a 700-project track record that includes Arctic mining (Diavik, Kupol), Andean copper operations (Antamina), and US Pacific Northwest industrial. The cross-border team means your project team has delivered in your climate before -- not learned on your dime.

Can Colony handle US mining, data center, or energy projects at scale?

Yes. Reference projects include gold, copper, diamond, oil-sands, and biomass operations; Canadian and US data-center facility builds; and Yukon hydroelectric powerhouse work. Colony carries the bonding, insurance, and workforce scale to handle 7-8-figure heavy-industrial engagements.
