Client: Minera Antamina
Project size: Filter Building: 13,800 SF | 1,280 SM | 54’ High Concentrate Storage Building: 120,000 SF | 11,150 SM | 115’ High
Location: Antamina Valley, Peru
Scope of Project: Filter Building and Concentrate Storage Building
The Filter Building was designed using traditional pre-engineered steel, however, the Concentrate Storage Building was designed as an A-frame to maximize the material capacity. Both buildings required designs to accommodate very heavy collateral loads as well as specialized epoxy paint systems to protect the steel against the high salt content in the area. Shipping these buildings overseas was coordinated through Colony and the consultant. The Filter Building was designed to house all the required filtering equipment for this mine. The combined weight of the equipment and the material demanded extremely high loads on the building. These loads were met with a traditional rigid frame design with large interior columns and rafters.
